The cast of The Rookie has issued an apology for the abrupt cliffhanger ending to Season 8. The audience had been left hanging after the last scene dropped out. Creator Alexi Hawley said at a fan event that Season 9's premiere will be extended above the usual length. Nathan Fillion announced that filming for Season Nine gets underway on the fifth of August.
